Review of Song Tipsheet Rowfax

By David Goldstein

Founded in 1992, Rowfax is the granddaddy of song tipsheets for the Country and Christian Music world. Priced at a very reasonable $179 a year, Rowfax provides about a hundred music placement opportunities in any given year. As it is focused on the music industry in Nashville, Rowfax specializes only in two genres of music: Country and Christian Music.

Rowfax features a mix of solicited and unsolicited leads. That means, some A&R’s, artist managers and record producers ask Rowfax to make their music requirements available to Rowfax’s members. These are the solicited leads. But there are also unsolicited leads where Rowfax just lists projects it is aware of, but they might not welcome or require outside music submissions. In some of those cases, Rowfax might not actually provide direct contact information, so a music publisher or songwriter is on his own. Having said that, it’s still useful to know that an artist or record producer has started working on a new project. You just have to figure out how to get in touch with that person.

You find all of Rowfax’s leads on its site nowadays. In the past, they used to send the leads via various methods (I wonder where the ‘fax’ in its name came from). The site itself is quite barebones, but it works.

When it comes to Nashville, Rowfax is pretty much the only game in town. The quality and quantity of leads in Country and Christian Music are unmatched by any other service. So we highly recommend the song tipsheet to songwriters and music publishers targeting the Nashville market. As it features primarily solicited leads, it’s probably best for semi-professional and professional songwriters and music publishers as Rowfax also states on its website.
